99 Club Tests

What is it?

’99 Clubs’ are made up of a series of 9 graded tests, to encourage pupils to

practise their mental maths skills.

Pupils need to answer mental maths questions, in a given time, in order to earn fabulous stickers.

The first level is called the ’11 Club’, then comes the ’22 Club’ etc.

Why are we doing this?

 We want our pupils to be really confident when carrying out mental and written calculations.

 To achieve the accuracy and fluency needed before leaving for secondary school, pupils need to have good mental calculation skills.

How will we do this?

To start with, teachers will be setting the start level for each pupil. Pupils will then practice the questions for this level.

When they think they can answer all questions in the time given, they tell the teacher, who will find the time to test them. If they pass, they receive a sticker and start on the next level.

How much time do they have?

Each level is timed as follows:

 ’11 Club’ has 11 questions to be completed in one minute.

 ’22 Club’ has 22 questions to be completed in one minute.

 ’33 Club’ has 33 questions to be completed in one minute.

 ’44 Club’ has 44 questions to be completed in two minutes.

 ’55 Club’ has 55 questions to be completed in two minutes.

 ’66 Club’ has 66 questions to be completed in two minutes.

 ’77 Club’ has 77 questions to be completed in three minutes.

 ’88 Club’ has 88 questions to be completed in three minutes.

 ’99 Club’ has 99 questions to be completed in three minutes.

Once the children have passed the 99 Club Challenge, they still have four further levels to attempt:

Bronze Club

Silver Club

Gold Club

Platinum Club.

Each of these clubs has 100 questions to be answered in five minutes.

Each of the last four clubs has an increasing level of difficulty.

What are these tests like?

You can find copies of the tests at the following website:

99 Club Tests

You can download tests from this website and pupils can also have a go at the test online.

Be aware that our timings are not the same as for this school

When will pupils practice?

We will give pupils time in school.

We will also set this as part of homework.

Pupils are welcome to carry out extra practice if they want to!

When will pupils be tested?

When pupils think they are ready they can request a test.

We will also give the whole class a test each term, to check on progress.
